Interior
The 2018 Elantra makes full use of the sixth generation platform’s longer wheelbase to provide a spacious and comfortable interior that blends style, comfort and utility. It has always been slightly larger than other competitors in the class, and cabin update last year has made even better use of the space by adding more legroom to the front seats and more headroom to the back seats, making for happy drivers and passengers. The redesign has also added many great little storage areas throughout the cabin that provide ample utility when in use and blend nicely into the overall design when they are not. And, of course, the seats are nicely upholstered and well-padded for a comfortable ride. The material quality and the noise insulation of the vehicle round out a solid interior that is just as useful as it is aesthetically pleasing.

Exterior
Hyundai was not quite as bold with the 2018 Elantra as it had been with the last redesign, but much of it can be attributed to how far the general compact car aesthetic has advanced than a lack of creativity. The current model is still all striking lines, from the sharp bottom corners of the front bumper to the sleek rear elevation on both the sedan and the hatchback. In addition to metallic accents and sheetmetal curves, the exterior design of this car stands out through effective use of contrast, such as between the grille - which is different on the two body types - and the bumpers, to provide an additional depth to the car’s look. The resulting styling is complex, but at the same time easy to appreciate. And, just like its predecessors, it easily stands out from all the other compact cars on the road.

Mechanical
The 2018 Hyundai Elantra is a versatile car, which makes it perfect for our many Longmont Area customers. It strikes an excellent balance between being a canyon-carving performer and a placid commuter, with a variety of options to adjust the balance for your own liking. Regardless of the model, the updated body of the car is stiffer and the steering weighted to provide good feedback when driving. This makes it engaging to drive without really inconveniencing your passengers. The Sport models for both the sedan and the GT hatchback provide an even stiffer suspension that gives the model a boost of agility and makes it even more fun to drive, while still cushioning your passengers nicely from bumps in the road. It combines work and play in order to give you the best of both automotive worlds.

Powertrain
This year’s model continues to offer a range of excellent powertrains ranging from efficient to sporty. The sedan version of the 2018 Elantra retains last year’s three powertrain options, including the base 2.0-liter engine that should satisfy most drivers, an efficient Eco engine and a powerful turbocharged engine on the Sport. The GT hatchback does not offer the Eco option, with the base model using the same 2.0-liter as the sedan and the Sport using the 1.6-liter turbo that it shares with the Sport sedan. The base engine provides 147 horsepower in the sedan model and 162 horsepower in the hatchback, while the Sport 1.6-liter turbo earns 201 horsepower on both. Combined with the tighter suspension, it makes for some truly thrilling performance, as anyone who has taken it for a spin at our Longmont area dealer dealer can attest. A quick six-speed manual is available across the lineup, while the automatic transmissions include a six-speed base option and a seven-speed for Eco and Sport models for extra efficiency and quicker engine response.

Safety
Hyundai has put a lot of effort into safety, and no review could be complete without touching on the safety improvements made in this new model. Many of the advanced safety features that have given the model the Top Safety Pick Plus award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety are now available across more trim lines and now come standard on all but the basic SE model. That includes blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert as well as a lane departure warning. Optional safety features include dynamic cruise control and automatic emergency braking. This easily makes this Hyundai one of the top safety choices for the Longmont area, and we would not be serving Longmont Loveland Boulder Colorado buyers if we did not recommend this as one of our top safety picks as well.

We hope this review has given you a sense of all of the exciting new changes brought by the 2018 Hyundai Elantra, though this blog simply lacks the space to truly do this great car justice.
