2018 Hyundai Elantra GT Longmont CO

For almost two decades now, Hyundai has provided the GT as an alternative and more spacious bodystyle variant of its popular compact sedan, the Elantra. Designed as a five-door hatchback, the Elantra GT enters the 2018 model year with a lot of style and a load of standard features. Adhering to the nameplate's seventh generation of production, which kicked off in 2015, the GT is available as a single model.

With two rows of seats for up to five people, the new Hyundai Elantra GT provides 96.1 cubic feet of passenger volume. Behind the rear seats is 23 cubic feet of cargo space, and you can expand it to 51 cubic feet by folding down the seats. The cargo area comes with a cover, and there's storage space under the cargo floor for additional item carrying capacity. The front seats have 6-way manual adjustment for providing comfortability when on the road. For infotainment, the new Elantra GT comes with a six-speaker stereo system, which includes HD Radio, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone operation, a complimentary three-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for using your smartphone to execute functions, and an 8-inch touchscreen. Also standard on the Elantra GT are cruise control, a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, and steering wheel-mounted controls. Optional features include Blue Link for a suite of car care services, wireless device charging capability, a proximity key system with push-button engine ignition, a navigation system, and a seven-speaker premium audio system.

The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT uses Hyundai's "fluidic sculpture" styling language, thus giving it a sleek sports-style appearance. A rear spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels add to its racing orientation, in addition to boosting its aerodynamic performance. The projector-style headlights are accompanied by LED daytime running lights to increase conspicuity during the daytime, and the power heated bodycolor side mirrors include a blind side mirror at the driver's side to help avoid collisions. You can enhance the GT with available features such as a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels (instead of 17s), turn-signal indicators on the side mirrors, or longer-lasting and brighter LED light bulbs (instead of halogen ones).

The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT uses a unibody construction for ultimate sturdiness and stability. A MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion axle rear suspension provide cushioning from the turbulence of bumpy or uneven roads. And motor-driven power steering not only ensures sharp turns and precise cornering, but also relies on an independent power source rather than the engine. There's the option of replacing the torsion axle design with a multi-link rear suspension for increase bump absorption and road holding.

The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT is powered by a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which provides 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. However, you can choose to go with a smaller but more fuel-efficient 1.6-liter turbo I4. The Elantra GT's standard engine is hooked up to a 6-speed manual transmission, with the option of going with a 6-speed automatic transmission with a SHIFTRONIC shifter for simulating manual gear shifting. If you go with the 1.6-liter turbo I4, it'd come with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission with paddle shifters for enhanced driver gear shifting control. And the 6-speed automatic transmission option includes a Drive Mode Select system for varying driving feel according to your mood or needs.

For safety in the event of a car crash, the new Hyundai Elantra GT has a pair of front impact airbags, which face the driver and front passenger; a knee airbag at the driver's side, a pair of front seat-mounted side impact airbags; and roof-mounted side airbags that are mounted on the roof to cover both rows. Also standard on the Elantra GT are electronic stability control for keeping you on your intended traveling path, four-wheel disc brakes for shortening stopping distances, hillstart assist control to prevent rollback when driving from a parked position on a hill, traction control to maximize tire grip on the road, anti-lock braking for preventing wheel lockup during sudden stops, and electronic brake-force distribution for proper allocation of stopping power to the wheels. A remote keyless entry system with panic alarm functions as the GT's security mechanism. Optional safety features on the Elantra GT include blind spot detection, smart cruise control, lane keep assist, driver attention alert, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
