Vehicle Research and Strengths

The Hyundai Elantra has been around since 1990. However, it wasn't until its fifth generation of production more than two decades later that the little car began to garner a lot more notice for its overall refinement. These days, the Hyundai Elantra is one of the most popular compact sedans around. And with a sixth production cycle commencing with the 2017 model year, it intends to remain that way.  For a compact four-door sedan, the 2017 Hyundai Elantra provides a lot of interior space. Passenger volume is measured at 95.8 cubic feet, which is more than sufficient for up to five adult occupants. The trunk supplies 14.4 cubic feet of space for your luggage, and it can be expanded by flipping down the 60.40 split rear seat. Safety, particularly on the top-level trim, can be greatly enhanced by a generous list of features that include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beam assist, and smart cruise control. Such availability is a major factor for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarding the new Elantra its top-level "Top Safety Pick Plus" rating, since the aforementioned technologies enable the vehicle to achieve the best possible rating of "Superior" in front crash prevention. These high-level safety features constitute a prime example of Hyundai's generosity involving the Elantra, which is loaded with a lot of useful and user-friendly tech features.

The 2017 Elantra is completely redesigned for the new production cycle: the nameplate's sixth. There's now an Eco trim for customers who place a premium on fuel efficiency. On the other hand, gone are the Value Edition and Sport trims of the previous model year.

The starting MSRP range of the 2017 Elantra is $17,150 to $22,350. U.S. News & World Report, based on a thorough aggregation and evaluation of automotive ranking and review data, puts the new Elantra in the top five of its Compact Cars category, with particularly high marks for its interior quality and safety ratings. Additionally, the Elantra is not only designated as a "Top Safety Pick Plus" because of its high front crash prevention ability, but also for its sterling performance in the IIHS Crashworthiness Test; the sedan scored the best possible rating ("Good") in every single portion of it.

Overview and Key Trim Features

As the maiden model year of the nameplate's sixth production cycle, the 2017 Elantra is split into three trims. The aforementioned Eco is placed between the base-level SE and the top-tier Limited trim. Check out the official Hyundai Elantra website for more Hyundai Elantra research. Since it's the most fuel efficient of the three trims, the Eco is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine, which produces 128 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque. The Eco also stands out with its 7-speed EcoShift dual clutch transmission. The result is a trim-topping fuel economy of 32 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. The other trims have a larger, 2.0-liter I4 that is hitched to a 6-speed manual (SE) or automatic (Limited) and produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. At the base level, the Elantra relies on a six-speaker stereo system with a complimentary three-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription for entertainment. This feature is upgraded with Bluetooth for hands-free phone operation and streaming audio, a 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen audio display, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for controlling the stereo system with your smartphone. Other upper-level features include dual-zone automatic climate control, front-seat heating capability, steering wheel-mounted controls, push-button engine start, and a rearview camera for monitoring your driving or parking when shifted to reverse. As the top-tier trim, the Limited is the only version of the Elantra that has features such as power adjustability on the driver's seat, leather seat trim, and a pair of charging USB ports for mobile devices. Also, the Limited stands out with a three-month trial subscription to Hyundai's Blue Link Connected Care suite, which includes automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance, car service scheduling ability, and a monthly vehicle health report. Positive Review

As the official review says, "If you were a fan of the Elantra in the past, things just got even better." Never satisfied with just perfunctory use, the 2017 Elantra is plush with technology, roominess, and comfortability all wrapped up in a profile that is sleeker and more aerodynamic than ever before.Ready to check out the 2017 Hyundai Elantra?
